Autumn does not push

November 3, 2018

Autumn does not push
Or force her way into our forests
Gardens
Hearts

She glides in gracefully
One ochre slippered food at a time
Her crisp evenings
and the warm embrace of her early days
lull us into cozy comfort
patiently

Her moods bring bright days rippling
with the laughter of
Street-dancing saffrons & rubies
The burning embers of summer

Her moods bring fierce winds
Storms whose heavy-handed threats fill rivers
lakes
seas
They overthrow their boundaries
Tear down the silver-haired sentinels
Of oak
And pine
And birch
Who have forgotten they must bend
or break

The destructive power of Autumn’s jubilee
Undaunted
Inevitable
Destructive
Breathtakingly beautiful
Again.
